Making the Piece
Only after the research and workshops are complete is the content and form of the final piece decided. Here the decision is made to focus on the people. The film is a portrait of six Coutts employees who vary from Chief Executive to Junior Assistant. The film explores their real life and opinions and makes little or no reference to the workplace. By getting to know these people as individuals we come to understand the nature of the organisation, or brand, in a way that is authentic and accessible. The elements that make up the film are: audio interviews - in which each subject is recorded in conversation; still photographs - black and white portraits taken of each person; location shoots - film portraits are taken in locations chosen to represent the external world of the organisation; music and sound - an original score is composed and arranged. In the edit the individual stories are composed in a way that is intriguing unto itself and which also tells a great deal about the whole organisation, its values, attitudes and identity.
